About Us

Western Health provides comprehensive, inpatient and outpatient healthcare to one of the fastest-growing and most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in Australia. We serve the western and north western suburbs of Melbourne in Victoria.

Overview

We manage four acute public hospitals – Footscray Hospital, Sunshine Hospital, Williamstown Hospital and Bacchus Marsh-Melton Hospital – as well as operating the Sunbury Day Hospital and numerous community based and outreach health services, and more. A new $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital, with 504 beds and major tertiary teaching facilities – the largest hospital build in Victorian history – is due for completion in 2025.

Our Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the state and construction of a major expansion and upgrade has recently been completed.

The Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital is now the second largest maternity site in Victoria, with more than 6500 births a year.

Our comprehensive, clinical services range from acute emergency medicine and intensive care  at both Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals, through to subacute care, specialist ambulatory clinics, women’s health and maternity, oncology, cardiology, as well as paediatric, renal, chronic disease and geriatric services.

Our 10,000+ staff are passionately committed to improving the health and changing the lives of every member of our rich and multifaceted community.
