Our midwives are actively encouraged to upskill, develop their critical thinking, take leadership roles and lead care planning, with an emphasis on person-centred care. As a registered midwife (or nurse/midwife) you’ll be able to tap into your full range of skills and work wherever you’re happiest or across a variety of areas, including:

Antenatal Clinic
Maternity Assessment Centre
Birthing Suite
Postnatal Maternity Wards
Domiciliary (home outreach) team.
Home birth program

We also provide maternity services for lower risk women through the Bacchus Marsh Melton Hospital and this means there are opportunities for midwives to rotate through this smaller setting if they wish.

Or maybe you’re returning from parental leave in another health service and want to take advantage of Western Health’s ‘keeping-in-touch’ shifts, which let you dip your toe back into work without using up parental leave entitlements.

Whatever your preferences, Western Health can develop a tailored program for you, including supernumerary shifts and 24/7 education support. Our dedicated staff are all here to help you further develop your confidence and expertise. They will welcome you with open arms.

As a Registered Training Organisation, Western Health has a strong educational focus. We offer a Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership through Victoria University, and multiple postgraduate opportunities, with paid clinical placement scholarships available.

Other opportunities include ERM, PPH, SSP, and clinical guideline development; over 30 Associate Midwifery Unit Manager roles; a bi-annual intake of Clinical Midwife Specialists; and frequent leadership secondments. Our unit also boasts a dedicated Chair of Midwifery Research, a testament to our desire to continually improve the care of women and their families.

Our models of patient care are midwife-led, with our midwives championing progressive approaches and the importance of listening to and respecting the woman.
